YMax magicJack Review - PC Mag
PC Magazine have published a review of the YMax magicJack voice-over-IP device which plugs into your computer’s USB connection and then in any corded, cordless or portable phone to facilitate calls. 'The magicJack device, about the size of a box of Tic Tacs, has a USB plug on one end and an RJ-11 phone jack on the other. I had to connect mine to a Windows PC, but Mac OS X drivers should be ready soon. After USB plug meets USB port, you'll wait a minute or so while the magicJack software gets automatically loaded. Those who already have magicJack will be happy to know that the company says a firmware rev released while I was testing makes the hardware more resilient to problems caused by fluctuating electrical levels in foreign countries. It also installs hardware echo control, which taxes your CPU about 50 percent less than before.

Stop Jerking me around, MagicJack-Off!!!
I refer to this company as jackoffs because they charged my debit card 25 days into my 30 day trial period - bouncing two checks! It's a no-no to give out debit card #'s on the internet; but a $1.2 million dollar heart attack & 2 month coma wiped out my credit as well as my health. Hence VOIP. Anyway, back to the point. Not only did they break their contract with me; they're dragging their heels in giving me a refund number; probably hoping they can say that I went over their 30 days trial period by not returning their product in a timely fashion. I had to go through the hassle of disputing this directly with my bank. PAIN IN THE AARRGGGGHH!
I was going to cancel in due course anyway - most everyone I called received a
wicked echo or couldn't hear me unless I was shouting! YES! I tried all of their
"magic fixes" from their website to improve the call quality; To no avail...
When I first installed this crapware - I found THIRTEEN different applications
associated with it in my firewall... I disabled nine of them - but FOUR of these "services" HAD to be enabled for this POS to work - THREE TOO MANY FOR MY TASTE! And they were all named with obfuscating names like "in00000" & such...
In addition, MagicJackOff would not give me the local area code that I live in -
How much you wanna bet they make money off all the local folks that have to call me
long distance?! Sheer speculation, I know, but still... Do NOT trust
MAGICJACKOFF!!! - Hasta la fuego, Magic Jack-Offs! - POS's!

Hello all
I have been using magicjack for a few weeks already, here are my thoughs,
magicjack works fines if you have a fast internet connection, those 3 package deal from your IPS for 100.00 will give your magicjack usb decide a hard time when it comes to audio quality and calls connection . .
installing magicjack on a sp1 vista machine will not work, you need to have a vista version without any SP, once you install magicjack, then you could upgrade to vista s1.
If you need futher hel or tip, feel free to visit my unofficial magicjack forum at www.magicjacksupport.tk

I have been using the MagicJack for 2 weeks now. It is working quite well and my family and I are leaning on keeping it. As for when they will charge my credit card (25 days or 30 days) is not an issue for me because if I intend to return it, I will do that well b4 the fact.
More later.
