The POE-CIT has three RJ45 ports: one for network input from a PoE-enabled switch or midspan; another for Ethernet connection to the PoE camera; and a third for Ethernet connection to a portable device such as a laptop or netbook. Diagnostic LEDs will illuminate to verify connection to a valid PoE load, which enables users to test Ethernet cables for the presence of PoE before connecting to an intended device. The "Power" LED will illuminate if connected to any valid PoE load with 25K detection which includes IEEE802.3af and IEEE802.3at standard injectors and select higher power midspans with the ability to step down power to the "at" standard. The "IEEE802.3at" LED will only illuminate if a valid 802.3at load is detected and connected. Therefore, the device not only detects power on an Ethernet cable which origins may be tens of meters away through walls but also detects what type of PoE.

In the event that PoE is not available, the device features a DC IN jack enabling users to connect a traditional AC-DC adapter to power the camera.
