Review: WaveBox Microwave Oven Lunchbox Cooler - Digital Reviews Network

WaveBox-Portable-Microwave.jpg

A review of the WaveBox portable microwave has been posted over at Digital Reviews Network. 'The WaveBox arrived straight from the factory in the retail box, inside a strong, sturdy and plastic wrapped carton. Great packaging because even though the WaveBox is built for the outdoors environment, I like to receive it without any damage, thank you. On that note of sturdiness: I'm not game to try out how well this appliance will hold up in really rough situations. Apparently, the factory has done drop testing onto cement surfaces with reliable performance afterwards and no structural damage. The reinforced ABS plastic on the outside looks like it can be scratched easily but will probably stand the test of time. After all, if you're going to go rough you wouldn't care about any scratches either, would you?'

Toaster And Egg Poaching Combo

The-Egg-Poaching-Toaster.jpg

The Egg Poaching Toaster available from Hammacher Schlemmer is one neat looking toaster oven. If you are not particularly interested in the consumption of eggs you may not be inclined to purchase this appliance. However, if you prefer your eggs scrambled, fried sunny-side-up, hard or soft-boiled, this combination cooker maybe the one for you. 'This countertop device makes a complete breakfast sandwich in just four minutes by preparing all the ingredients at once, 60% faster than cooking everything separately. The wide-mouth unit perfectly toasts two slices of bread, an English muffin, a bagel, or a croissant, while simultaneously poaching or steam-scrambling an egg.' The Egg Poaching Toaster costs $50.

The WinePod: High Tech Tool For Do-It-Yourself "Vintners"

WinePod.jpg

The idea of being able to make your own wine[s] certainly is tempting and with the assistance of the new Winepod and Winecoach software there is the possibility to produce some professional results from your very own kitchen. Of course there is the minor issue of cost and the Winepod which is available on pre-order will set you back $2000 and then you will have to arrange the delivery of grapes which will not be shipped out of the USA this year. 'The WinePod is a new domestic device for artisan winemaking – a micro winery just being readied for launch and seeking international distributors and we see this as a winner because it is just sooooo sophisticated.

Portable Handsfree Can Opener

Handsfree%20Can%20Opener.jpg

I have to admit I am not that skilled in removing the tops of metal containers with the traditional can opener. I am not even that thrilled at having to pull the metal clips which precipitates the removal of some covers of tuna and fruit containers that do not require an opener. Needless to say, I am a fan of the Handsfree Can Opener (available from Sharper Image for $24.95) even though I do not own one at present.

Giant Swiss Army Knife At Engadget

Giant%20Swiss%20Army%20Knife.jpg

The Swiss Army Knife has apparently come in for a massive upgrade with the addition of several new miniature tools to the traditional toolset. I am not so sure of how the added weight of this item will agree with those who like to lug around with these "tools" in their pockets but the flexibility of having new capabilities should override any concern. 'Wenger, the manufacturer of the classic Swiss Army Knife, has revealed a 9-inch long, 2-pound "knife" which carries 85 instruments, or: almost every tool that has ever been on a Swiss Army Knife, ever. The list includes seven different knives, a golf shoe spike wrench, a bike chain rivet setter, and a laser pointer with a 300ft range (but where's the freakin' USB flash drive?).'

Belleville.com: Kitchen Tools Checklist

Heather McPherson writing in the Orlando Sentinel has compiled a handy list of kitchen implements which though available from specialty stores, are increasingly attracting the attention of ever more consumers. 'The number of kitchen gadgets sold each year is not a big slice of pie, but it's a significant sliver. "Kitchen tools and accessories accounted for 8.9 percent of total U.S. retail housewares sales in 2004," says Debbie Teschke, media-relations manager for the International Housewares Association. "Total housewares sales were $65.2 billion."At Williams-Sonoma and other specialty stores, such as Crate & Barrel, staff members coach couples who fill out registries to help them obtain items that suit their culinary lifestyles. But there are always those gifts from well-meaning friends and relatives who can tell a butter curler from a produce scraper at 50 paces. Both would be nice to have - if you only knew what they were.'
